Popular Kollywood actor and director RNR Manohar died of a heart attack today. He is 61 years old.Manohar is reported to have contracted COVID-19 and has been receiving treatment in a private hospital in Chennai for the past 20 days.
RNR Manohar entered the film industry as an assistant to senior director KS Ravikumar in “Master of the Band” and “Suriyan Chandran”. He also co-directed several films in the 1990s.As a writer, he has worked in many films, including “Thenavan” and “Punnagai Poove”.
“Maasilamani” (2009) starring Nakul and Sunainaa happened to be Manohar’s first film as a solo director.Subsequently, Manohar turned his attention to acting and played important roles in many successful films such as “Yennai Arindhaal”, “Veeram”, “Theeran Adhigaram Ondru”, “Miruthan”, “Bhoomi”, “Teddy”, “Viswasam” and “Kaithi”.
Manohar also happens to be the younger brother of DMK leader NR Elangovan.His wife survived. The couple lost their 10-year-old son Ranjan in 2012.Many Kollywood celebrities on Twitter expressed their condolences and respect.
Music composer D Imman called RNR Manohar an efficient director and kind person.He wrote: “Rest in peace, Mr. RNR Manohar. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his friends and family. I have the honor to work with him to direct the director’s adventure “Masilamani” starring Nakul and Sunaina, led by Sun Pictures Production. A highly effective person. Director and a kind person.”
