Police say the shooter who killed three people at Michigan State University was 43-year-old Anthony McRae. Three students were killed and five others were injured Monday night when a gunman opened fire on a classroom building and fraternity house on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, police said.

After an hour-long pursuit, police found the suspect, Anthony McRae, 43, had committed suicide outside the campus.

All five injured students were in critical condition as of Tuesday morning, officials said. Police said the motive for the crime was unknown. The suspect, Anthony McRae, 43, has no known ties to the university, according to authorities.

Authorities found him after a tip from a caller after police released a photo of the suspect, officials said.

A search warrant was executed at a house, police said. During a news conference Tuesday, the Michigan leader called for the spread of gun violence in the United States.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Michigan, said of the November 2021 mass shooting in Oxford: ‘I can’t believe I did it again 15 months later’ high school where four students were killed and several were injured .

“I’m angry that we have to hold another press conference about our kids being killed at school,” she said. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer added: “We are all heartbroken by an all-too-familiar emotion.”

“We can’t go on like this,” she said. “Our kids are afraid to go to school. People don’t feel safe in places of worship or in stores.”
