Ariel Treviño Peña, also known as “El Tigre,” the leader of the Gulf Cartel, was killed in a confrontation in Matamoros on the night of October 22, according to Governor Francisco García Cabeza de Waka.
“El Tigre” is one of the most requested awards by the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office, and is included in the security and prosperity movement of the Tamaulipas state government and seven federal agencies in the United States.
Treviño Peña and two of his bodyguards died after the shooting spread to various points in the area.
The National Coordination Team explained that the four people involved in these incidents belonged to the Gulf Cartel and were also captured.
In addition, an armored car, four lances and a magazine were also repaired.
During the confrontation, a woman was killed by a stray bullet and two others were wounded. The situation is reported to be stable.
