Twin brothers from Vancouver Island have been named as suspects killed in an attempted armed robbery bank shootout this week in Saanich, British Columbia.
On Saturday morning, the RCMP released the names of two suspects: Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie, 22, of Duncan.
Police said the suspect’s family is cooperating with the investigation.
Neither brother has a criminal record, and police said they did not know them.
“We know that releasing the names of the two dead may answer who is who, but there are still many unanswered questions and investigations that must be done to fully understand what happened and why,” RCMP Cpl said. Berube.
“The motive for the armed robbery and subsequent firefight with police has not been established.”
Police said there were only two brothers in the bank, but did not rule out that others may have been involved.
Anyone who has had recent contact with either party is asked to contact the RCMP’s Vancouver Island Integrated Crime Squad.
Police said a forensic investigation is also underway at the scene.
