BBI is a Scam’, KHRC faults BBI terming it as a waste of funds and not the solution for inclusivity.
The BBI recommends the creation of ministerial positions at headquarters, at least 70 new electoral districts, and an affirmative action mechanism that can lead to elections of up to 300 parliamentary elections.
President Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga claimed that the proposed constitutional reform would end Kenya’s winner-take-all policy framework, which is often accompanied by deadly violence.
However, BBI has been fraught with uncertainty since its inception. Those who invented it believe that it is the only ingredient missing from the mix, and some believe that it can heal the country. The bill should have gone through several procedures before it could be passed. Unfortunately, the bill failed to overcome any hurdles.
Although the bill has faced challenges so far, its supporters appear not to have given up. The latest blow is the Superior Court decision, which many people believe is the end of BBI. Given that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s electoral victory was declared invalid in 2017, this decision may be the most important in a Kenyan court. The court ruled that the constitutional amendment “Bridge Construction Initiative” (BBI) did not meet the standards, was illegal and unconstitutional.
For various reasons, many Kenyans have abandoned the bill. Some people believe that the BBI is an agenda for the future political prosperity of some people, while others believe that the bill is a burden on taxpayers.
