Manchester City soccer player Benjamin Mendy was taken into custody pending trial after appearing in Chester District Court and charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. While the legal process continued, the club suspended him pending an investigation.

Mendy, who also played for the French national team, was charged with three counts of rape in October 2020, sexual assault of a woman in January 2021 and rape in August this year. The complaints involve three accused whistleblowers, one of whom is under the age of 18.
All the incidents allegedly occurred at his £ 5 million home in Prestbury, Cheshire. Mendy was also charged with violating the conditions of the August bail.
A judicial list indicated that after being released on July 26 of this year, he broke the condition of having more than four people in his family. The case was postponed to September 10, when Mr. Mendy will appear in Chester Criminal Court.
