Chapter 56 of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga is due out in two days, 3/18. Which means that the traditional leaks have already revealed everything that will happen in the chapter. Including a possible solution to Boruto’s Karma.
We thank in advance the guys who translated the leaks, @organicdinosaur and Boruto Explorer.
ATTENTION: BORUTO SPOILERS: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS BELOW.
Boruto’s last chapters revealed the truth about the Karma seal that Boruto and Kawaki possessed: it is an Otsutsuki resurrection tool.
It works like this: when implanting Karma in someone, Otsutsuki is placing his DNA in a compressed way in the body of the future receptacle.
If the receptacle is appropriate, it will survive the process and, over time, Otsutsuki DNA will be extracted from the seal and overwrite the victim’s DNA.
That is, little by little, Karma is transforming the receptacle into a new version of Otsutsuki. It is this process that allows the aliens to evolve their own DNA and be immortal.
Otsutsuki can even create multiple receptacles with multiple Karma. But when the resurrection process is carried out, all unused Karma marks disappear.
It is a form of security to prevent Otsutsuki from creating multiple copies of itself.
That’s exactly what happened to Jigen / Isshiki / Kawaki. Many years ago, Isshiki put Karma on an unlucky monk named Jigen. Jigen’s body was not compatible with the process, which forced Isshiki to look for other receptacles.
Eventually he found Kawaki, a compatible receptacle, which was later modified by Amado to become a ninja weapon.
But Amado intended to destroy the Otsutsuki threat and was not a true ally of the Kara organization, founded by Jigen / Isshiki.
He took advantage of a moment of Jigen’s fragility and, through Koji Kashin, forced Otsutsuki to revive in the incompatible body. That way, he would only have a few days to live and would die before completing the evil plan.

This forced resurrection erased Kawaki’s Karma and saved the boy from having his existence erased by Otsutsuki.
Only that does not solve the problem of the other Karma in the story: Boruto’s.
Boruto received Karma from another Otsutsuki, Momoshiki, and there is no indication that there is another vessel. In other words, the solution that served for Kawaki will not serve for Boruto.
At least not in the same way.
In chapter 56, after the ninjas defeated Isshiki and returned to Konoha, Kawaki appears with an idea on how to remove Boruto’s Karma.
Use a new receptacle.
Boruto, like Kawaki, has had more than 80% of the DNA extraction completed. That is, they are already 80% Otsutsuki. But while Kawaki’s extraction stopped after he lost Karma, Boruto’s extraction continues.
That way, he could enjoy the same techniques as an Otsutsuki. Even creating a receptacle for yourself.
Kawaki formulates this theory that Boruto could create Karma in someone else. And then, as soon as Momoshiki was reincarnated, Boruto would “die”, but he would be incarnated in the receptacle.
Initially, Boruto hated the idea. This would, after all, require human sacrifice.
But Kawaki did not come without answers and spoke of having his own person for this: Code.
The idea would be to put Boruto to be reborn in the body of Code, Jigen’s loyal right-hand man. It would survive the process and could be an ideal vessel. In addition to the fact that he is a villain who will seek the destruction of those who defeated Isshiki.
It would be two problems solved in one stroke. But it would require Boruto to make a human sacrifice, something that even for a villain would be cruel and unheroic.
It is unlikely that this will be the path used … But it is a possible path.
