Eric Wagner (Eric Wagner), the former singer of the doom metal icon Trouble and most recently The Skull, died last week at the age of 62 after being hospitalized with COVID pneumonia. The Skull was recently on the road with The Obsessed, but withdrew from the long journey midway, citing a surge in COVID cases across the country driven by the delta variant of the coronavirus.
The organization later announced in a statement that they would also withdraw from their appearance at the Psycho Las Vegas Music Festival, which also revealed that Wagner was admitted to the hospital with COVID pneumonia. Now, the former The Skull guitarist Chuck Robinson, who was also a member of Trouble from 2002 to 2009, has announced the death of his former band member on Facebook. Robinson wrote: “I woke up this morning to see the worst news… We were all really [sic] destroyed… my dear friend, bandmate and brother Eric Kwagner is dead. Good night seducer…we love you…”
Wagner, second from the left in the selected photo above, is known as the singer of Trouble, one of the earliest traditional doom metal bands. Two years after the band was founded, he joined the band in 1981 and performed Psalm 9 (1984), The Skull (1985), Run to the Light (1987), Trouble (1990), Manic Frustration (1992) and Plastic Green Head (1995) and then left in 1997. After Wagner returned in 2000, Trouble finally released a new album Simple Mind Condition in 2007, which was their last album with the iconic singer, who left again the following year.
In 2021, The Skull was formed by former members of Trouble, who named the band after the 1985 record. They released two albums in 2014 and 2018, For those That Are Alseep and The Endless Road Turns Black. Loudwire expressed condolences to Wagner’s family, his past and current friends and band members, and everyone who knew him. Rest in peace.
