Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy Floyd Cardenas, 41, was found unresponsive in his home this morning, Sheriff Javier Salazar says. He was an 18-year veteran of the sheriff’s office and Head Trainer for the K9 Unit.
The Cárdenas deputy left his wife and two teenagers. He also put down his 9 year old K9 Tango.
Sheriff Salazar held a press conference Thursday night. “I had a rough day at the Bexa County Sheriff’s Office,” Salazar said.
The deputy has been identified as Floyd Cárdenas, 41. Sheriff Salazar said Cárdenas died in his sleep. The family found him unconscious.
The Cárdenas deputy left his wife and two teenagers. He also put down his K-9 Tango for 9 years.
Sergeant Salazar said he received a call about Cardenas’s death around 7:30 a.m. He said he has no underlying health problems and is working Wednesday to participate in the search for suspects.
Sheriff Salazar said funeral arrangements will be announced.
