The now-defunct president of the Umkhonto weSizwe Veterans Association (MKMVA), Kebby Maphatsoe, has passed away.
MKMVA spokesman Carl Niehaus confirmed this on Tuesday.
“Yes, I can confirm it. Today (Tuesday) almost nothing happened. I received the news of his death a while ago. I cannot confirm the cause of his death at this time. After speaking with my family, I can only confirm that he has deceased, “Nihaus said.
Kebby Emmanuel Ramaotoana Maphatsoe served as Deputy Defense Minister from 2014 to 2019 and is a strong supporter of former President Jacob Zuma.
In June, after the Constitutional Court ruled that the former president was sentenced to 15 months in prison, Mapsso asked Zuma not to turn himself in to the police.
“We are disappointed with the ruling and we do not encourage President Zuma to surrender himself to any prison,” he said. Maphatosoe has served as the national president of the now-defunct MKMVA since 2007. He is a former member of the South African Student Conference, the Soweto Youth Conference, and the South African Youth Conference (SAYCO).
