The unfortunate news today is that we learned that another member of George A Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” family has passed away. The George A. Romero Foundation confirmed this morning reports of the death of Marilyn Eastman, who played Helen Cooper in the original 1968 classic, at the age of 87.
The foundation wrote on Twitter: “We are very sad to confirm that Marilyn Eastman passed away on August 22, 21. At this painful time, please join us in wishing her family peace.” In addition to starring in Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead”, Marilyn Eastman is also an indispensable figure behind the independent production, working in the makeup, props and sound departments, and helping to edit the movie’s script. Eastman also appeared in the movie as a zombie, playing the dual role of an actress in this legendary classic.
In addition, Marilyn Eastman and “Night of the Living Dead” star Carl Hardman are founding members of the film production company Image Ten Productions. “Oh my God, Marilyn. Give our love to Carl,” the George A Romero Foundation tweeted this morning. Karl Hardman died in September 2007 at the age of 80. There are a few people who would not exist without Night of the Living Dead, and Marilyn Eastman is one of them. We extend our deepest condolences to Marilyn’s family and friends.
