Although an independent review found that Liz Cambage’s actions had caused Australian basketball to be condemned, he still escaped a fine or suspension.
The independent team issued a formal condemnation to Cambage for this incident, which occurred during the Olympic warm-up match between Las Vegas and Nigeria. An investigation by the Australian Basketball Association prompted an independent review.
BA announced that after a hearing last Friday, the panel ruled that she was guilty of one charge, but dismissed allegations related to three other suspected incidents. It stated that neither BA nor Cambage intend to appeal the decision.
Due to mental health issues, Cambage withdrew from Australia’s Tokyo campaign within a few days after the Nigeria practice match, which shows that she has been panicking about entering the Olympic bubble.A low level penalty means that the 30-year-old player is eligible to participate in the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Sydney next September. World No. 2 Opals struggled after Cambage’s late exit because they were eliminated in the quarter-finals in Tokyo.
The BA statement read: “After reviewing the evidence before it, the panel determined that Elizabeth Cambage was indeed involved in the actions that caused the Australian Basketball Association to be condemned for one of the alleged incidents.
”Cambage completed the WNBA season with the Las Vegas Aces after the Olympics. She won the WNBL championship at Southside last season, but has not yet signed with the club before the start of the season on December 3rd.
