Hubbard Hall shooting news today, University police report active shooter

Michigan State University Police said the second reported shooting occurred just after 9:25 p.m. in IM East in the 800 block of E. Shaw Lake, about 50 minutes from the shooting at Berkey Hall in the E. 500 block. circular drive.

A lone shooting suspect is said to be at large on campus; students and faculty should continue to seek shelter-in-place, the department said.

The MSU campus is eerily quiet, the loudest sounds being the beeps of crosswalk sensors, bells and the occasional siren as dozens of officers with long guns and red and blue lights patrol the perimeter of the MSU Union building on Abbot Road in East Lansing .

In the latest alert, police said students and staff should continue to seek asylum and police would continue to respond.

East Lansing and Michigan State University Police could not immediately be reached for comment. East Lansing tweeted: “Shots fired on MSU campus. Gunman still at large. Police active at scene. Community members on and off campus should seek shelter immediately.”

The East Lansing High School auditorium, where the school board meeting was held Monday night, was closed and school officials at one point restricted school officials from leaving the school.

Hubbard Hall is known among Spartans as the tallest building in East Lansing and close to East Lansing’s neighborhoods and shops. There is also Sparty’s Café in the lobby.

Fun fact: Hubbard Hall is named for Bella Hubbard, a Detroit farmer and geologist who proposed an agricultural college that led to MSU’s established.
