A Smithtown teen who was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang with three other teens died Wednesday after it crashed into a 2015 Jeep Wrangler in Commack, officials said.
On Thursday, police identified the girl as Isabel Carella on April 17.
On Wednesday, Kings Park School superintendent Timothy Eagen said the four teenagers were students at Kings Park High School.
“I am deeply saddened to report that there was a very serious car accident on Indian Hyde Road in Commack earlier this morning involving four King Park High School students – a senior and three juniors ,” Egan said in a letter posted on the district’s website. Wednesday.
Police said the Mustang swerved as it headed north on Indian Head Road to avoid colliding with another vehicle, lost control and collided with the jeep, which was heading south at about 3:45 p.m., then on Calden Road. Drive nearby.
Carrera was killed. The driver of the Mustang, Dominic Crocitto, 17, of Kings Park, and a second passenger were both seriously injured. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
Both the Mustang’s third passenger and the 19-year-old girl driving the Jeep were not life-threatening and were taken to a local hospital, police said.
The other two passengers in the Mustang were identified as Joseph Gibino, 16, of Kings Park and Liam Fili, 17, of Kings Park.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as 19-year-old Annalise Wilkes of Commac.
Egan said the district provides grief counseling and other support for students in Kings Park.
“We are very saddened by today’s events and will work to help you and your children if needed,” Eagen said.
