It is with a heavy heart I inform the community of the passing of Grande Prairie City Councillor John Lehners. John Lehners was a long-time resident of Grande Prairie, a community leader, a friend and a colleague who will be dearly missed. My deepest sympathies go to his wife, Donna, his two children, Adam and Analise, his fur kids Hugo and Tory and the many, many people who knew John. Flags at City facilities have been lowered in his honour. – Mayor Jackie Clayton
It is with a heavy heart that I inform the community of the death of Grand Prairie Councilman John Lynas.
John Lehners, a long-time Grande Prairie resident, community leader, friend and colleague, will be greatly missed.
As an engineer by trade, John founded a successful engineering firm operating in North America and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Peace Area Engineering Society for his many years of service.
John cares deeply about his family and community. He has volunteered with many organizations including the Swan City Rotary Club, the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Grand Prairie Legends Hockey Council. As a trustee of the Grand Prairie Public Schools Board of Trustees, his influence continued for 20 years, including 9 years as Board Chair.
Elected to Grande Prairie City Council in October 2021, John has fostered positive relationships across the council in his short tenure to lead and build Grande Prairie. The council and I are very saddened that Council Lynas has been with us for such a short period of time.
My deepest sympathies go out to his wife Donna, his two children Adam and Analise, his fur babies Hugo and Tory and many who know John.
