Nearly a decade after murderer David Shepard was convicted in 2013, the NBC dateline is finally ready to revisit the gruesome murder of a famous doctor who was the result of a not-so-sophisticated plan. His then-girlfriend’s obsessive and self-deprecating ex-boyfriend, another doctor named Thomas Dixon, was allegedly at the center of it all.

The episode titled Lone Star Obsession will air Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 9pm ET on NBC. The outline says:

“When a doctor is found murdered, investigators don’t know who wanted him dead. Cops uncover smoldering jealousy and love triangle. By Andrea Canning Saturday, August 13 at 9pm /8 on NBC.”

Dr. Thomas Dixon is reportedly upset about Joseph Sannier’s relationship with Dixon’s ex-girlfriend, Richelle Shetina. So he bribed his friend David Sheppard to track down and ultimately murder Sonnil, prosecutors said.

Shetina reportedly claimed she was in Los Angeles and was on a special trip to Paris to celebrate her 50th birthday with Sonnier when something unusual happened. She claims she was being followed and, in February 2012, months before the murder, she came home with a bizarre message, said to be from Sonnier’s ex-girlfriend.

The children of murdered Texas doctor Joseph Sunnier have received news of their father’s murder on the second anniversary of their mother’s death. On July 12, 2010, Sanil’s second wife, Becky Gallegos, was reportedly shot and killed by her second husband, who then shot himself. Sonnier was found stabbed and shot at his Lubbock home.
