Kathleen Nolan is an American television and film actress for her role as Kate Housewife on the Walter Brennan ABC series The Real McCoys Kate McCoy is remembered. The veteran actress, in addition to her successful career as an actress, also served two terms as the president of the Screen Actors Guild.
In fact, she was the first female president of the guild. Nolan, a lifetime member of the Actors Studio and recipient of several awards including the Crystal Award for Women in Film, was appointed to the PBS Board of Directors in 1978 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
She began her acting career as a Broadway artist, playing the role of Wendy in the Styne-Comden-Green original Peter Pan (1954-55). Some of her best-known performances in TV and film include Gunsmoke, Murder, She Wrote, Meet McGraw, Ben Casey, Tombstone Territory and The Last Movie Star (2018), a British drama directed by Adam Rifkin.
Nolan, who has spent most of her career on television, made her debut in an episode of the Filco Television Theater.
Other shows over the years include Gunsmoke, The Lloyd Bridge Show, The Untouchables, Breakpoint, Cross Jordan, Allie McBeal, Chicago Hope, All I Have Children”, Jacqueline Susan’s Valley of the Dolls, Murder, She Wrote (1991 episode “The Prodigal Son”), Magnum, PI ( episodes “The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii” and “Double Jeopardy” (1982), The Incredible Hulk, Quincy Me, Love Boat, Charlie’s Angels, The Rockford Files, The Bionic Woman, Kolchak: Nightcrawler, Love, American Style, Fascinated, Big Valley, Alfred Hitchcock Hours, Thriller, Burke’s Law, Meet McGraw and Ben Casey.In 1964, she joined the Screen Actors Guild Board of Directors as an alternate.
Nolan chaired the Women’s Committee from its inception in 1972, and in 1973 became the first woman to be elected first Vice-President. In 1975, she ran for and received the position of Guild President.
