I have sad news from Selangor. So Sri Khalid Ibrahim, a person who contributed a lot to the country has left us forever. May Allah give you the best place and place you among those who are faithful and do good deeds.
Born on December 14, 1946, Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim is a politician who was the Chief Minister of Selangor between 2008 and 2014. He is also a member of the People’s Justice Party (PKR), which he represented in the Parliament of Malaysia in 2013 and the Selangor State Assembly in 2008. However, Abdul Khalid separated from the party in August 2014, following his decision to step down as Menteri Besar of Selangor. He had been asked to leave his post by the party due to his independent stance.
Born in the village of Kampung Jalan Raja Abdullah in Kuala Selangor district, Khalid went to the University of Malaya and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He later went to the University of Queensland and got his MBA.
Khalid started his career as a university lecturer. In 1979, he joined the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the biggest party in the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. That same year, he became the CEO of the government-owned fund management company Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), a job he held until 1994. In 1981, he became well known for orchestrating the dawn raid on the London Stock Exchange, which saw PNB gaining a 51% stake in British plantation company Guthrie in less than two hours. He went on to become the CEO of the Malaysianized Guthrie, now known as Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd, from 1995 to 2003.
