His full name is Mario La Vista Camacho. He was born in Mexico City on April 3, 1943. He studied music at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, under the tutelage of Carlos Chávez and Héctor Quintanar. From 1967 to 1969, he received a scholarship from the French government and studied with Jean-Etienne Marie at the Schola Cantorum in Paris; in 1969 he became a student of Karlheinz Stockhausen in the new music course at the Reinische Musikschule in Cologne, Germany, and participated in the German Da International New Music Course in Mstadt.
