MCSO Chad Brackman lieutenant struck, dead by vehicle in Scottsdale

Authorities said a lieutenant who was in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for traffic control in Scottsdale was hit and killed by a car on Wednesday. MCSO Sheriff Paul Penzone said at a press conference that Chad Brackman was knocked down by a vehicle at around 10 am when he was off work on 87th Street and McDowell Road.

Brackman was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. “We have lost a very important member of our community and law enforcement community,” Peng Zuo said. Brackman, 47, worked at MCSO for 22 years, leaving behind his wife, two children and two stepchildren.

Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walter said at a press conference that the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and is receiving treatment for injuries related to the accident. Both directions of McDowell Road from Granite Reef to Pima Road were closed due to accidents. The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating the incident.
