Sick video shows Iranian man marching with 17-year-old wife’s head after k1lling her.
The victim, Mona Heydari, was only 17 years old and had a 3-year-old son. When she was only 12 years old, she was forced to marry her murderer, who was also her cousin Sajjad Heydari.
Mona is constantly being abused, but she has no way out. Even after escaping to Turkey, she returned because she could not bear to be alone in a foreign country.
According to RFERL, Mona was brutally murdered days after returning to Iran after her family promised she would be safe. Her husband and his brother allegedly tied her hands and chopped off her head.
Killings are labelled honor killings and there is no real punishment for the crime.
American sociologist Hossein Ghazian spoke to RFE/RL’s Farda Radio about how women in the Middle East enjoy minimal rights.
“Men own women’s minds and bodies. They draw lines and see it as a social responsibility to protect their honor,” Gazian said. “If they fail, they think they have to prove their honor, and [often] do that by killing women who are physically assaulted.”
