Mpho Moerane dead car accident? Former Joburg mayor passed away?

What does the news report mean when it says Mpho Moerane is “fighting for his life”. Do they mean he is not dead? Or, do they mean he is still alive? That profession refuses to be precise. Poor George Orwell’s writing was all in vain.

Former Joburg executive mayor and ANC Joburg treasurer Mpho Moerane is alive and recovering in hospital.

Reports circulated on social media Sunday afternoon that he had died.

The Moerane family denounced what they called “inhumanity and error”.

Moerane was involved in a car accident last week and his district said he was recovering and receiving treatment.

“We want to confirm that Moerane is not dead, he is still in the hospital, he is stable and recovering. We call on all those who spread false news announcing his death to refrain from taking how their actions hurt Moerane’s family, friends and comrades, ‘ said family spokesman Mike Maile.

Mailer described the people behind the fake news spread as ruthless people bent on inflicting unimaginable pain on their families, who have focused all of their energies on working with medical professionals to help Morane recover.

Mailer went on to say that declaring a living person dead is against tradition and that people should not back down from efforts to advance the agenda they are after.

“We call on members of the media and all to respect the privacy of the Moerane family and to show them respect and dignity,” Maile said.

Mailer clarified in a tweet that it was not Morane who died.

“Cde Mpho Mashini died, not Cde. Mpho Moerane. Condolences to Cde’s family. Mpho Machinini!” read the tweet.

People took to various social media platforms to wish Moerane a speedy recovery.
