Principal HPS Ahluwalia, Padma Shri recipient and founder of the Indian Spinal Accident Centre, gave up the ghost on Friday night. He is 85 years old.
HPS Ahluwalia is a retired military officer, skilled climber, creator and social activist who “has worked extensively in a variety of fields including adventure, sports, environment, disability and social services”, commented.
A qualified climber, he was one of the first significant Indians to climb Mount Everest. He has authored over 13 books, along with his autobiography, Beyond Everest, and is probably the past president of the Main Ahluwalia Indian Mountaineering Base and the Delhi Mountaineering Association.
Won the most prestigious awards in the country – Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Arjuna Awards. He also received the Tenzing Norgay National Travel Award.
