Richard Chapman (born May 9, 1956 in Pembery, Kent, England) is a British guitarist, composer and writer. He is a self-taught musician, and his personal style is inspired by a lifelong interest in landscape, Celtic mythology and English folklore.

He grew up under various influences such as jazz, classical and rock music, and began playing acoustic and electric guitars at the age of 11. Moved to London at the age of 18, mainly performing live jazz and improvisation music.

Major figures including John Stevens. During this period, he became more and more interested in classical composition, British folk music and Arabic music of the 20th century.

He is engaged in private teaching, specializing in harmony, improvisation and techniques for intermediate and advanced players. After moving to Oxfordshire in 1984, he and concertina player Dave Townsend explored new methods of traditional British folk materials.
