The mother of two standout West Texas footballers, Jordan and Jaxson Shipley, was found dead in Kirby Lake West on Monday.
Sharon Shipley, 55, voluntarily left a treatment center in Abilene on Jan. 10, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office. By 3 p.m. Sharon was reported missing.
After hours of searching, Texas Parks and Wildlife crews located her body on the west side of Kirby Lake. The cause of death is not yet known.
The body has been sent for an autopsy.
Jordan Shipley played for the Texas Longhorns from 2006-2009. He finished his career with 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns on 248 receptions. Jaxon Shipley also played for Texas from 2011-2014. During his career, he had 218 receptions for 2,510 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Law enforcement was initially called to the scene around 11:00 a.m. to find Shipley, when she was reported missing after voluntarily leaving a local treatment facility.
Shipley’s next of kin have been informed of her death and a death investigation is ongoing. Her body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
No further information, including whether a foul was suspected, has not been released.
