Strong rumours have been spreading across Kashmir valley tonight that radical separatist of now defunct group Hurriyat Syed Ali Shah Geelani has passed away. DGP J&K Dilbag Singh and IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar say these are only rumours and he is doing okay at his residence.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani (born September 29, 1929) is a pro-Pakistan Kashmiri separatist leader in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India. He previously was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir, but later founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He served as chairman of the Hurriyat Conference of all political parties of the pro-separatist alliance of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as a military judge in the Sopore constituency in Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and 1987. He left Hurriyat in June 2020.
