Former MIC Vice President Tan Sri S. Subramaniam has passed away at the age of 78. Subramaniam died around 8pm on Tuesday (July 5), according to his son Sunther.
“My father died peacefully in his sleep,” he said. According to Sunther, his father was bedridden for nearly 11 years after a stroke.
From 1974 to 1982, he served two terms as a Damansara MP and four terms as a Segamat MP, his last term being the 1999 general election.
In the 2006 party election, he was ousted by Datuk Seri G. Palanivel as the vice-chairman of the Congress Party.
Subramaniam’s funeral will be held at his home in District 16, Petaling Jaya on Thursday (July 7).
He leaves behind his wife, Puan Seri Tina Subramaniam, 70, and two sons and a daughter.
