DepEd investigates teacher in viral TikTok video leaked

The Ministry of Education said on Friday that it was investigating a TikTok video that went viral on the Internet, which involved a teacher, and the video suggested possible child abuse. The official did not confirm the identity of the teacher, but the TikTok clip was created by the user @leobondoclopez. He has more than 104,000 followers on the platform, but has since switched his account to a private account.

The agency said in a statement: “As a trustworthy agency, DepEd can protect the rights of every Filipino learner. It will not tolerate any form of child abuse.” The video in question depicts a male teacher who wants to get the attention of students.

The headline read: “Kapag dumaan’yung cute na student mo…tamang pa-cute lang.” (When your cute student passes by, you try to look cute.) Social media users call the video’s pedophile tendencies to be content creators.

The Minister of Education Leonor Briones has notified the agency to investigate the incident at its office in central Luzon, met with the teacher, and received appropriate sanctions.

DepEd tries to remind teachers and non-teaching staff to always “make our words and deeds, including our social media activities, meet the highest ethical and professional standards.”

It added that teachers should first advocate “providing a safe and beneficial learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual, and other forms of abuse and discrimination are abandoned.” Officials vowed that they will continue to strengthen the agency’s policies and activities to protect students from abuse, especially during the National Children’s Month.
