Real Madrid was imposed on Barcelona 2-1 this Saturday at Alfredo Di Stéfano for matchday 30 of the Spanish LaLiga. The classic was dominated for the most part by the ‘Merengues’ but the second half turned to those of Ronald Koeman, being very close to tying it. In the 83rd minute there was a great controversy when all Barça claimed an alleged penalty of Ferland mendy against Martin Braithwaite. Koeman, very angry, told the press that it was a “Very clear penalty.”
Danish Martín Braithwaite entered the second half (80 ‘) to replace Ousmane Dembélé and starred in the most controversial play of the match. The 29-year-old striker fell into the area after an alleged contact by Frenchman Ferland Mendy, who had let the ball pass after a shot from Jordi Alba. The match referee, Jesús Gil Manzano, decided not to charge the penalty despite complaints from all of Barça.
Despite the fact that the Blaugrana team felt harmed, in the television replay it would seem that Braithwaite exaggerates a very slight contact by Mendy in the area. The Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman, was outraged by this play on the ‘Movistar Plus ”microphones:“ Very clear penalty. Once again we have to accept it and we have to shut up. I have already said what I think and perfect. If it’s not 2-2, of course. The other is something else. You have to ask for extra time and there are things that have happened, but it is a clear penalty and there is no VAR. I don’t know why there is no VAR in Spain. Everybody thinks it’s a penalty ”.
The anger of Sergi Roberto and Piqué
For his part, the midfielder Sergi Roberto (entered at 63 ‘by Sergio Busquets) also complained about this controversial play: “I was in front of the play and I think it touches it. It bothers me that the referee has not reviewed Braithwaite’s play, sometimes when there is minimal contact they will see him, but not today. I was surprised that he said very quickly that there was nothing ”, said the Barça man to ‘Movistar Plus’.
Finally, Real Madrid won 2-1 with goals from Karim Benzema (13 ‘) and Toni Kroos (28’), while Barcelona had discounted with a goal from Óscar Mingueza (60 ‘) and almost achieved the tie with a shot to the crossbar of the young Ilaix Moriba. Gerard Piqué (did not enter) also showed his disagreement with the judge’s decision on Braithwaite’s play, as he ended the game demanding things from Gil Manzano, to the point that he had to be separated by his collaborators.
