With the final season wrapping up on Friday, March 11, Formula 1 fans have been enjoying Netflix’s latest show and its “How to Survive” show.

Storylines include a world title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, George Russell’s move to Mercedes, McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo and rookie drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Nikita Mazepin.

At the end of the second episode, a tribute to Thomas Bonnecarrere, who died in 2021, is played.

Who is Bonnecarrere and why is Drive to Survive honoring him?


The second episode of Drive to Survive season 4 “Ace in the Hole” focuses on Ricciardo and new McLaren teammate Lando Norris.

At the Monaco Grand Prix – Ricciardo won a race in 2018 – he fought hard and was lapped by Norris – who finished third behind Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr.

Bonnecarrere, a longtime F1 photographer, tragically passed away shortly after the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix.

The Frenchman works not only in F1 but also in various racing championships and series.

Following Bonnecarrere’s death, former F1 and IndyCar driver Romain’s wife Marion Grosjean took to social media to pay tribute to him.

Grosjean posted a photo of Bonnecarel holding a camera in tribute to her friend at her wedding to Roman.

Formula 1 itself also paid tribute to Thomas Bonnecarrere by releasing a video of his photography work at the Monaco Grand Prix.
