Winter the Dolphin is dead after battle with intestinal issues

Winter the Dolphin, the star of “The Dolphin Story” and the idol of Tampa Bay, tragically passed away after battling intestinal problems. Team members at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium noticed on Monday, November 1 that Winter “behaved not like her normal” and was not interested in eating.

The test results on Wednesday, November 10th showed that despite the “aggressive” treatment by the aquarium staff, her intestines were abnormally aggravated, making Winter’s condition critical. CMA’s animal care experts work with veterinary experts from across the country and around the world to explore all possible options to help save the winter.

The aquarium said in a statement: “Many people are inspired by her resilience, and this amazing response reminds us of how deeply she has affected millions of people, including their own health journey.”

The aquarium will be closed on Friday, November 12th, allowing staff time to focus on treating winter. Unfortunately, despite having struggled with intestinal problems in the past, the Winter’s dolphins were killed around 8pm.

Animal care experts from all over the country are dedicated to treating her gastrointestinal abnormalities “Although we are heartbroken by Winter’s death, we are pleased to know that our team has done everything possible to give her the best chance of survival.

We have worked with experts and marine mammal experts from all over the country to provide her with The best care. During this challenging time, our staff work around the clock,” said Dr. Shelly Marquardt, CVA DVM Veterinarian. “I am honored to work with such dedicated and talented professionals who have given everything for the winter.”

Winter made national headlines when he was rescued off the coast of Florida in 2005 and taken to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The bottlenose dolphin was trapped in the crab line and lost its tail. She later received a replacement of the prosthesis. Her story inspired the 2011 movie “Dolphin Tale” starring Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Chris Christopherson and Morgan Freeman. This movie will continue to receive a sequel, titled “Dolphin Story 2”. 16 years old in winter.
