A few days after a firefighter and his wife in Cherokee County were shot dead at their home, the county lost another first responder.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday that a young deputy Zackary Barksdale had passed away.

The department did not disclose Barksdale’s age or cause of death. He is a deputy in the adult detention center and has worked in the sheriff’s department for 2.5 years.

The sheriff wrote on Facebook: “The Barksdale deputy is a model employee with a smile on his face.” “He will be missed very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Last week, Cherokee County firefighter Justin Hicks and his 30-year-old wife Amber were shot dead at their home in Acworth. Their neighbor, Matthew Lands, was charged with murder. Their two-year-old son is safe and sound.

Lanz was also accused of stabbing a Sandy Springs police officer in a series of strange violent crimes.
