My friend and colleague at @UoNEnglish Prof Zoltán Dörnyei sadly passed away this morning following an illness. A great loss for the School and for applied linguistics in the world. RIP.

Zoltán Dörnyei (b. 1960) is a Hungarian-born British linguist. He is Professor of Psycholinguistics at the University of Nottingham, UK. [1][2] He is best known for his work in the psychology of second language acquisition and language learning, especially motivation for second language learning, and has published numerous books and articles on these topics.
Dörnyei received a double MA in English and Art History from the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary in 1985. The title of his dissertation was the art trade in Hungary before 1945.
In 1989 he received his PhD in Psycholinguistics at the University of Eötvös Loránd with his thesis entitled “Psycholinguistic Factors in Foreign Language Learning”.
In 2003, he received a Doctor of Science degree. PhD in Linguistics from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Between 2008 and 2010 he did part-time research in Theology at St John’s College, Nottingham.
In 2011, he obtained an MA in Theology and Religious Studies from the Department of Theology at the University of Nottingham. The title of his dissertation is Transfiguration, Beauty, and Biblical Interpretation. He received his Ph.D. in 2017. Degree in Theology from the Faculty of Theology and Religion, Durham University. His dissertation is titled Progressive Creation and Humanity’s Struggle in the Bible: An Experiment in Normative Narrative Interpretation.
