Popular Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who joined Congress ahead of Punjab elections, has been shot dead.

Moose Wala ran for parliamentary elections with one of Mansa’s assembly votes. He was made by Dr. defeated AAP’s Vijay Singla by 63,323 votes. Moose Wala, from Moosa, a village in the Mansa district, joined Congress last November to much fanfare. When Congress awarded him a ticket to the Mansa parliamentary constituency, then-Mansa MLA incumbent Nazar Singh Manshahia opposed the party, saying he would oppose the controversial singer’s candidacy.

Moosewala, popular in rural parts of the state, was one of 424 VIPs who lost their security protection yesterday as part of the Bagwantman government’s crackdown on VIP culture.

The VIPs also included retired police officers and religious and political leaders. Earlier, the state government had removed security guarantees from 184 former ministers, MLAs and private protection beneficiaries. A month ago, the security of 122 former ministers and MLAs had been lifted.

The families of former ministers Manpreet Singh Badal, Raj Kumar Verka, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and former prime minister Charanjit Singh Channi have all lost their safety.
