Andrew Stone dead and obituary, computer programmer - cause fo death

Andrew “Andy” C. Stone is an American computer programmer best known for his iOS app Twittelator, which has sold over one million iPhones and iPads to date. Founder, Director and Chief Programmer of Stone Design Corporation, Albuquerque, NM. Over 25 years of programming, he has released over 35 software titles for Hypercard, NeXT Workstation, Mac OS X, and iOS iPhone and iPad. In 2015, he retired from software development.

Andrew Stone is a contributing writer for Waite Group’s Tricks of the HyperTalk Masters.

Stone developed software for Sandia National Laboratories, called ProtoTymer, that allows physical interfaces to be tested in software versions.

Attracted by Steve Jobs’ vision for the personal computer, Stone became the first independent developer of the NeXT computer, releasing a shrink-wrapped product called TextArt in October 1989. TextArt allows designers to manipulate PostScript text using virtual buttons, dials, and sliders. By 1990, TextArt had evolved into Create, the drawing program introduced in 1991. Meanwhile, Stone Design is developing a multimedia database manager called DataPhile.

Stone Design, the NeXT leader in electronic software distribution and the first permanent App Store promotional item, was also invented with the NeXT tool electronic AppWrapper. According to an employee at Paget Press (the startup responsible for the first App Store), it started out as AppWrapper #3, which was first shown to Steve Jobs [9] and featured the Stone Design app. Apps like Create and DataPhile are sold alongside 3D Reality and other Stone Design apps. Today, the Stone Design app can still be found in the iOS App Store, making Stone Design probably the longest-running developer actively utilizing electronic distribution through any app store service.

In addition to Stone’s reputation in the NeXT world as the first ISV to offer shrink-wrapped products for NeXT computers, he and John Perry Barlow first had a legendary spree at the Exploratorium in October 1992 for over 3 years [10]. Those parties are still being discussed today because both LSD and NSA are in the same room.
