Since Melanie Olmstead wasn’t part of the Yellowstone cast, fans have been wondering who she is and what happened to her.

She died in May 2019, just before Yellowstone season 2 premiered. Olmsted came to Yellowstone because of his love of animals and his extensive knowledge of filming locations.

Her background in ranching and conservation makes her a valued member of Yellowstone’s production team. Melanie Olmsted was born in 1968 and was raised by adoptive parents Reed Howard and Janet Corbridge. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she fell in love with animals, especially horses. “My love for horses started when I was learning to walk,” Olmsted wrote on Facebook, “but when I was an adult, I had my first ‘mine’ horse.” (Source: Express)

Olmsted also shared a photo of her beloved horse, Mahogany, on her Facebook profile. “This beautiful, amazing girl has been with me since college and recently celebrated her 37th birthday – my non-equine friend is over 100 – and she’s still doing great!” Olmsted and Mahogany remained together for another three years before the horse died at the advanced age of 40.
