Jim Nunn cbc dead and obituary, Fearsome and fearless journalist

Former CBC News Nova Scotia Six, Land and Sea and Markets host Jim Nunn has died after a battle with cancer. Nunn died in hospital in Antigonish, NSW, on Sunday night. He is 72 years old. A date for the funeral has not yet been set, but his family said a celebration of life is planned sometime in the spring.

“Jim had a lot of personality. In Nova Scotia, a lot of people knew him as a great reporter, but at the end of the day, he was a great guy,” Nunn’s brother Bruce told CBC News. Bruce says his brother’s broadcasting career started on their father’s lap, “on the mic at CJFX station in Antigonish…so Jim got into the business very early on”.

Bruce said he saw online condolence messages from people talking about how his brother had affected their careers. His career at the CBC spanned three decades. Nunn is known for covering local elections and covering major events in Nova Scotia, such as the Westray mine disaster.

“It was like it was live on TV for days. It was tiring and difficult, but he got a lot of compliments for the work he did there. He really represented labor, which is rooted in Nova Scotia culture and history. very dangerous occupation,” Bruce said. Geoff D’Eon, Nunn’s executive producer from 1988 to 1993, called Nunn a “terrible man” and a fearless reporter”.

“He’s got a really good journalistic mind…he’s always asking really probing, sometimes provocative questions, and I personally think he’s a great broadcaster, and CBC and Nova Scotians are lucky to have Invite him to be the host of the show,” Eon said. D’Eon said some viewers found Nunn’s interview style to be rude and at times offensive. D’Eon recalls receiving letters about the incident.

“I’ve always felt that his interview style is very open, he doesn’t hold back, he always wants to get to the heart of the matter…especially when he interviews politicians,” Deon said. Some politicians do not want to be interviewed by Nunn because they Intimidated by him. D’Eon says one of his most memorable interviews was with rock star Alice Cooper, where she grabbed him by the throat and threatened to rip out his eyeballs and throw them all over the studio. This clip was posted in a video that can be viewed on YouTube.

“If I had to boil it down to one thing, I’d say if you’re interested in public policy or politics in Nova Scotia and are looking for allies in the press to understand what’s going on and hold people accountable, Jim Nunn will be your best friend,” D’Eon said.

In 2008, Nunn conducted an infamous interview with actor John Dunsworth about the Trailer Park Boys ending. In that interview, Nunn told Dunsworth, “This horrible TV show full of slobber, marijuana, drunk people, it’s not a great thing, you know, they live in trailer parks. Poor people left a very bad impression”.. Wouldn’t it be nice to go? “
