Van Nuys high school shooting today, active shooter news now

@PupscanLA any idea on what’s going on at VanNuysHighSchool. On lockdown

Van Nuys High School, or VNHS, is an L.A. Unified School District public high school located in the Van Nuys district of Los Angeles. It belongs to the district 2 and hosts three Magnet Programs — Medical, Performing Arts and Math/Science. The school also hosts a Residential Program.

Some neighborhoods, including Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Magnolia Woods and Victory Park, are zoned to this school.

Van Nuys High School opened in 1914 less than four years after Van Nuys was established. Until then, the only high schools located in the San Fernando Valley were Owensmouth (now Canoga Park) and North Hollywood. In 1933, fragments of the 1915 school were used to construct the auditorium and some buildings. Bob Waterfield, VNHS’ famous track and football player, graduated from the high school in that same year. Don Drysdale, another famous athlete who played football for VNHS, had a baseball field named after him.
