Steven Viola dead and obituary, teaching is treating his students

Steven Viola’s main teaching philosophy is to see students as colleagues and secondarily students. He believes, “If you learn the piano and play the piano, then you are a pianist.” For over two decades Steven has studied and played the piano with his longtime teacher, mentor and friend, Yuka Yanagi.

Steven is currently a graduate student in the Master of Piano Performance program at Montclair State University. He studied with Ph.D. David Witten, Dr So Yeon Kim, Dr Hee Kim Yoon and Dr. Lisa Yui from the Manhattan School of Music. He has performed at Steinway Hall, Shea Hall, Lincoln Center, and Leshowitz Hall. He has performed Mozart sonatas, some chamber music and improvised works.
