RIP Randy Meisner In 1971, Randy, along with Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon, formed #TheEagles and contributed to the band’s albums, Eagles, Desperado, On The Border, One of These Nights, and Hotel California. He was inducted with the Eagles into the Rock Hall in 1998.

Randall Herman Meissner was an American musician, singer, songwriter and founding member of the Eagles. During his professional music career, Meissner’s main responsibilities were as bassist and backing vocalist, band member and session musician. He co-wrote and sang the Eagles hit “Take It to the Limit”.

Randall Herman Meisner was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to farmers Herman (1911-1995) and Emily ( née Haun) Meisner (1911-2010) second child and only son. All four of his grandparents were Volga German immigrants. Randy had an older sister, Carol, who died in 2005. He remembers his mother used to sing in the house. His maternal grandfather, George Haun, was a violin teacher.

The Meissner family grows corn, beans, alfalfa and sugar beets on their farm. Young Randy became interested in the guitar at the age of ten after seeing Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show. He started taking lessons and playing in local bands. When Randy was at Scottsbluff High School, one of his teachers suggested he play bass. “I love R&B and Motown has a great bass player.
