Sadie Mauro dead and obituary, Teen Lacrosse Player death

High school lacrosse star Sadie Mauro, 17, died Friday night after her boat crashed into a pier near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Mauro’s body was found by the U.S. Coast Guard around 11:30 p.m. NBC Boston reported Friday. Missing person reports have surfaced since the crash, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police, Barnstable County Dive Crew and the Sandwich Fire Department are also involved in the search.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the accident happened around 9 p.m. According to several stores near Cold Storage Beach in Port Dennis Sesuit.

Authorities said six other people were on board, including a 17-year-old boy who was taken to a local hospital with head injuries. There is no word yet on his condition.

The cause of the crash has not been determined, but police say the investigation is still ongoing.

A rising graduate of Sherborne High School in Dover, Morrow played linebacker and midfielder on the club’s lacrosse team.

She has previously expressed interest in playing the sport in college, writing to coaches hoping to be recruited: “I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic career in college.”

In a letter to the family, Dover-Sherborne High principal John Smith said the school community was “shocked and heartbroken” by Mauro’s death, CBS News reported.

“Sadie’s smile can light up a room. She has a heart of gold and an incredibly sweet spirit,” Smith said, according to multiple outlets. “She has a strong sense of self and loves adventure and all things outdoors. Sadie was a hardworking student and a great athlete who was genuine and kind. “

“The Dover-Sherborne community is strong and known for its strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable tragedies,” Dover-Sherborne Public Schools principal Beth McCoy wrote to parents, according to The Daily Mail and NBC Boston.

“In the days and weeks ahead, we will continue to support each other and surround Sadie’s family, friends and loved ones with care and love,” McCoy continued. “Tonight I’m going to give my boys an extra hug – and I’m sure you will too.”
