Broadcaster Jamie Crick dead, died at the age of 57 today

Jazz FM and Scala Radio host Jamie Crick has died at the age of 57 after a brief illness.

Jamie, who last aired yesterday afternoon on Jazz FM, started his radio career in 1988 on County Sound in Guildford, Surrey, then worked for BBC Radio for a few years before switching to Classic FM, worked there for 20 years.

He joined Jazz FM in 2014 and continues to host Breakfast and Afternoon Drive.

In addition to the Jazz FM show, Jamie also hosts weekend shows on Scala Radio, having previously hosted on LBC. He was the founder and content director of theater radio station Encore Radio and founded one of the UK’s first digital radio services – Gaydar Radio, where he is Director of Stations.

His family announced his tragic passing on Tuesday morning on social media and Jazz FM this afternoon.

A spokesman for Jazz FM and Scala Radio admitted: “Jamie Crick is a broadcaster through and through and has been instrumental in our radio station.

“He was also a great friend to his colleagues at Jazz FM, Scala Radio and the entire Bauer Media team. They will all miss him dearly, as will his friends and viewers.

“Our radio station has a huge void to fill and will pay tribute accordingly in the near future, but as they all grapple with Jamie’s unexpected death, they will continue to honor it by playing the music he loved every day he.”

“Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”
