Wes Smith tcu dead and obituary, TCU finance junior shot and killed

A man is in custody after he fatally shot a TCU student on West 7th Street in Fort Worth’s popular entertainment district Thursday night.

Fort Worth police said officers patrolling the 3000 block of Bledsoe Street heard multiple shots fired. Police soon found an injured man with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but later died, according to police.

Investigators investigating the murder said the man was shot while standing in the street and the gunman attacked a woman as he fled. A short time later, the suspect was arrested and police identified him as 21-year-old Matthew Purdy.

Police have yet to say what charges will be filed against the alleged shooter or a motive for the shooting.

“There is tremendous sadness in our community today,” Cavens-Tur wrote. “We are working directly with Wes’ closest friends and classmates. I will make a more formal announcement once we have more information , and provide a way to support each other and come together to honor Weiss.”

According to TCU, Jarvis Hall offers counseling and other resources to students, faculty and staff without an appointment. Carl’s Church is also open and staffed by a priest.
