Obituary for Leisa Onderko

Leisa (Diotalevi) Onderko, aged 63, beloved wife of John A. Onderko for 41 years and a lifelong resident of Stratford, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2020, at CT Hospice. Born on September 4, 1957, in Stratford, she was the daughter of Eugene and Dea (Riccardi) Diotalevi. Leisa completed her education at the Bridgeport Hospital Radiologic Technology Program and dedicated over 40 years as an X-Ray technician at Advanced Radiology in Bridgeport, Stratford, and Trumbull.

A proud member of the Arc Angels, Leisa was a courageous Breast Cancer Survivor for 16 years. Her passion for giving back led her to volunteer at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center in Trumbull. Leisa found joy in vacationing, with a special love for the islands, particularly Aruba. She also cherished attending concerts by her favorite artists, including the Eagles, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, and Queen.

Leaving behind cherished memories are her devoted husband, John A. Onderko, and her loving parents, Eugene and Dea Diotalevi. She is survived by her dedicated son, Matthew A. Onderko, and his wife Kayla of Shelton, expecting a grandchild. Leisa is also survived by four brothers: Richard Diotalevi (Carole) of Wallingford, Randy Diotalevi (Cindy) of Vero Beach, FL, Roddy Diotalevi (Fiance, Terry Eller) of St. Helena’s Island, SC, and Robert Diotalevi (Leigh) of Bluffton, SC. She is remembered fondly by her special Aunt Gert, cousins Donna (Perry), Carrie (Lee), and Stephanie (Bill), nieces Jaina, Annadea, Renata, Gabriella, Erica, Adriana, Mia, Annika, and Marisa (Mike) Lavoie, nephews Danny, Ronald Jr. (Shayna), Robert (Cherisse), and sisters-in-law Maryanne (Al) Minervino and Deborah Onderko.

Leisa is preceded in death by her uncle, Harry Bukoff, and brother-in-law, Ronald Onderko. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family and numerous close friends, including Luba, Nadine, Val, Jill, Jen, Mo, Dell, Elaine, Jeanne, Michelle, Paddy, and many more.

The family expresses gratitude to Yale New Haven Smilow Hospital, especially 6 Devine Street in North Haven, for their exceptional compassion during Leisa’s struggle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
